ShiatsuHeart Training offers enjoyable, informal learning at various venues across the Sunshine Coast
The courses are suitable for one and all, from bodywork beginners to experienced therapists who wish to broaden their skill base. Classes are limited to 12 people. Bring a partner or let us find one for you.
With its link to Traditional Oriental Medicine there is a wealth of fascinating ancient bodymind wisdom to embrace. Students have found the courses to be a good mixture of theory and hands on bodywork, as well as enjoying the bonus of receiving a massage every week! Come along to further your own personal development, meet new people, or begin your studies in formal Zen Shiatsu training.
Learning Shiatsu is a beautiful way to reconnect with your own physical energy, strengthen your intuition, and to ground and balance yourself. Learning to balance your Heart and your Hara (belly) is the key to giving good shiatsu, and in my opinion a key to life in general. It is also a profound technique to facilitate the healing of your friends and family… as well as yourself in the process.

Zen Shiatsu Massage – 1 Day Workshops
We will also be looking into the oriental concepts of Ki (life-force), the channels or Meridians, and Tsubos (acupressure points). This will help to deepen your understanding of how Shiatsu works.
Along our journey, you will discover how to connect with your Hara (belly), to ensure that your intuition is strong, and your physical energy grounded. Basic Shiatsu techniques and principles will be covered, plus some Traditional Chinese Wisdom will be shared.
The above workshop is suitable for beginners through to professional massage therapists wishing to broaden their skill base. The Day will be an integrated learning experience, where intuition is honoured. Bring along an open heart, a desire to meet like-minded people, and have some fun while we learn the ancient and beautiful practice of Zen Shiatsu!

Previously Shiatsuheart ran this 1 day workshop-
Intensive One Day Workshop teaches participants 2 very effective and enjoyable massage sequences – the Back and the Side sequences.
The BACK sequence is the one that everyone really enjoys, and is a great way to start any Zen Shiatsu session. It helps to address back complaints (obviously), as well as calming the nervous system and relaxing the recipient. It is also possible to diagnose and treat every organ in the body through the treatment of the Bladder points (tsubos) down the back. All you have to do (along with knowing a few Shiatsu techniques), is to be present to what the moment is showing you and trust your inner wisdom.
The SIDE sequence is one of my favourites – hence its inclusion in the workshop. The side sequence works predominantly on the Gall Bladder Meridian. This meridian is partnered with the Liver and strongly influences its functioning. The Liver / Gall Bladder partnership is in charge of the free flow of Ki (energy) and blood around the entire body. Treating the sides of the body not only helps to open up our physical structure (shoulders, hips etc), but also has a profound effect on moving the Ki throughout the whole body. Usually recipients feel quite changed, not so grumpy and lighter etc after this treatment. It is also great for relieving headaches, stiff neck and shoulders, and fatigue.
Shiatsu revision afternoon (7/11/10) – The participants from the Back and Side Workshop (held on the 10/10/10) all agreed to come along to a revision afternoon. Here is a taste of what went on:
After teaching the group the basic Shiatsu techniques and sequence steps previously, I really wanted them to experience how it feels to work from their Hara. This requires working with an ‘empty mind’, instead of being in their heads and thinking about what to DO next. We focused on slowing down our practice to allow our intuitive side a chance to step in. By the second sequence I could see a marked improvement – everyone was more grounded and looked really relaxed and confident in their body posture. Well done to you all, and thanks for coming along.
It was noticed that the Side Sequence was invigorating and stimulating, and was a great way to end the day.
Zen Shiatsu Massage Course – Shiatsu 1
An Introduction to Zen Shiatsu (2 Part Course)
Part A – 6 weeks 3 hours per week
This course gives you a full body massage sequence spread over the six week period – you receive and perform treatments, whilst learning techniques and the Zen Shiatsu Principles. The six week period provides you with the time to integrate the learning, and also includes time for revision. (This course can also stand alone).
Aims and Objectives:
- Learn to give a full body therapeutic ZEN STYLE SHIATSU massage. Includes 5 main massage sequences: Back; Buttocks & Legs; Hara, Shoulders & Arms; Side Sequence and Neck & Head Sequence.
- Develop the key elements to giving a good massage – including sensitivity (intuition, trust and belief in self), body awareness, and an “empty mind”/meditative state
- Develop a basic understanding of how energy moves in the body – the oriental meridian system
- Develop a good understanding of the Zen Shiatsu principles and techniques
Part B - 8 weeks 3 hours per week
This course covers the 14 classic meridians (Ki pathways) and their treatment positions. You will learn the basic theories underpinning Traditional Oriental Medicine. Part A is a pre-requisite for this course.
Aims & Objectives:
- Develop an understanding of Yin/Yang Theory and Five Phase Theory.
- Generally locate the 14 main channels, and develop further understanding of how the channels work and what they do
- Learn locations of major points (Tsubos) on each channel
- Discuss the mind/body/spirit connections of the Five Elements (Water, Wood, Fire, Earth & Metal). This is the really fascinating part for me – learning the correlations between the emotions and the different parts of the body. You will really begin to get a sense of the body as a whole, deeply integrated and web-like system.
Parts A and B together are Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) for the Shiatsu 1module of the ‘Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies’ offered by the Queensland College of Oriental Massage (Diamond Valley, Moolooah).
